KHEL MEL : Bringing Children Together
Khel Mel workshops bring marginalised and mainstream children together in an environment of creative learning - often focusing on a traditional folk or tribal art form. About 20 students, aged 8 - 12, take part in a workshop, half of whom come from NGOs, half from mainstream schools. We encourage children to get to know one another through fun activities that break the ice, and allow them to see the many ways they are alike as well as to reflect on the differences between them. We try to evoke a sense of wonder about the art form as we look for their points of view, thinking and ideas. We encourage them to think more deeply and meaningfully through activities and thinking routines. At the end of their joint creative explorations each child makes a unique work of art to take home. |
Stop-Motion Animation Workshop at Teaching Fellowship Exhibition, Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts, June 2019 :Over the fun-filled four days, children created their very own paper puppets and shot stop-motion animation films using DSLR cameras. The partnering NGO for this workshop was Jamghat. We are grateful to Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts for giving us the space. The workshop was led by Anarya from Artreach India team.

Artscape happened over seven weekends in 2012 at Humayun's Tomb and its neighbouring monuments. The 23 children (half of whom paid to participate, half of whom were invited) worked with Charty, Naira and artists Ruchin Soni and Nidhi Khurana.
The success of the Artscape project led to the founding of Khel Mel workshops in 2014. |
